Corona Virus (COVID-19) Surface Disinfection Treatments Brandon
Microbial Disinfection Brandon
The coronavirus driving the current pandemic can live on plastic and stainless steel surfaces for up to three days, researchers say in a study published as a letter to the editor in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Some highlights of the findings, according to the letter from the New England Journal of Medicine:
- The new coronavirus was viable up to 72 hours after being placed on stainless steel and plastic.
- It was viable up to four hours after being placed on copper, and up to 24 hours after being put on cardboard.
- In aerosols, it remained viable “throughout the duration of our experiment” of three hours.
The study indicates that transmission of the new coronavirus is possible by aerosol and material, “since the virus can remain viable and infectious in aerosols for hours and on surfaces up to days,” the researchers wrote.”
“These findings echo those with SARS-CoV-1, in which these forms of transmission were associated with” spread in hospital settings, and in “super-spreading events,” in which one case can trigger tens or hundreds of cases, the researchers wrote.
With these new studies and articles coming out in regards to surface spread of the COVID-19 virus we have been receiving lots of calls and questions about how our Microbial Defense System can help with the issue.
Microbial Disinfection Treatment Brandon
Microbial Defense System(MDS), a two part system that is a safe, efficient, and warranted product proven to kill a variety of bacteria, viruses and mold and prevent the return for extended periods of time. MDS provides a superior alternative to less effective methods of dealing with microbes.
MDS(Step A) is an EPA registered, multi-purpose, anti-microbial, based on quaternary ammonium salts. It is a bactericide, virucide, disinfectant, fungicide, cleaner, mildew stat and deodorizer.
MDS(Step B) is a unique, proprietary sealer/preventative. It is a combination of silver ions(which have the highest anti-microbial effect of all metals and the lowest effect on humans and animals) and long-lasting polymers.This unique combination of ingredients significantly enhances the system’s capabilities, making it extremely safe & economical.

First of all we would like to make clear that TampaBayMold.net is primarily a mold remediation and testing company as our Microbial Defense System has been found to be a very effective way to eliminate mold in a dwelling. COVID-19 is the same type of Pathogen that our Microbial Defense System Step ‘A’ product has been proven to kill for years. (MDS-Step A label)
Research has concluded that the Corona Virus is an “enveloped virus”. It has been long known that enveloped virus’s are killed on contact with a quaternary ammonia product like MDS(Step ‘A’) and require very little dwell time.
The EPA has issued the following guidelines with respect to products that can be used to kill COVID-19:
- The product should be an EPA-registered, hospital/healthcare or broad-spectrum disinfectant with directions for use on hard, porous or non-porous surfaces.
- The currently accepted product label (from an EPA registered product as described above in III.1) should have disinfectant efficacy claims against at least one of the following viral pathogen groupings: a) A product should be approved by EPA to inactivate at least one large or one small non-enveloped virus to be eligible for use against an enveloped emerging viral pathogen. b) A product should be approved by EPA to inactivate at least one small, non-enveloped virus to be eligible for use against a large, non-enveloped emerging viral pathogen. c) A product should be approved by EPA to inactivate at least two small, non-enveloped viruses to be eligible for use against a small, non-enveloped emerging viral pathogen.
How long does it take to complete treatment and when is it safe to return to the dwelling?
Treatment in a building that does not have ceilings higher than 9′ can be done in approximately an hour per 2000 square feet. The occupants can return to the dwelling within 2 to 4 hours after treatment.
What’s the cost of the microbial disinfection treatment?
Depending on the characteristics of the building. (Prices are different than before the COVID-19 outbreak, we have actually lowered prices due to the crisis)
Prices are as follows:
$ .35/sq ft for MDS Step ‘A’(disinfectant only) treatment………………Min. charge $397.00
$ .85/sq ft for MDS Step ‘A’(disinfectant) and Step ‘B’(preventative)…Min. Charge $997.00
In a mold situation insurance does cover the treatment in certain circumstances, we have not seen insurance cover this due to COVID-19 as of yet however we encourage all customers to review coverage to see if an exception exists.
